2019Spring Camp 2nd Asia Oceania Championships Stan Schmidt Shihan 2019 Autumn Camp

The JKA International Masters Autumn Camp
The Autumn Camp was attended by Sensei Anthony Carneiro from Maharashtra and Chief Instructor Anand Ratna Sensei. They were joined by Sensei Neeraj Dhawan who is based in Chicago and Sensei Karl Naoroji who is based in New Zealand.
 
 


The JKA International Masters Spring Camp
The Spring Camp was attended by Chief Instructor Anand Ratna Sensei where he successfully renewed his Special Rights as an Examiner for Dan Gardes & Technical Qualifications in India.

2nd Asia Oceania Championships
The JKA 2nd Asia Oceania Junior, Senior Karate Championship Tournament was held from Aug 17(Sat) ~ Aug 18 (Sun) in the Sports Authority of Thailand Indoor Stadium in Bangkok. Anand Ratna Sensei was one of the Judges in the Tournament.

Stan Schmidt Shihan

Born :6 Oct. 1936

Grade 8th Dan

Stan Schmidt Shihan from South Africa started Karate in the early 1950s. In the 60s, Stan Sensei was taught by Enoeda Sensei  and established the South African branch of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) in 1965 after training in Japan. He was known as  'The Father of South African Karate'.  In 1963, he was one of the first westerners to train along with JKA  Instructors in the Instructor Class at the Tokyo Honbu dojo and was one of first  non-Japanese karateka to be listed in the JKA's International Shihankai. He was also the first few non-Japanese karateka to attain 7th dan from the JKA and the first to attain 8th dan. He has also acted  in several martial arts films of the 1970s and 1980s. He passed away on 7th October 2019. JKA India joins the rest of the world in mourning the passing one of the pioneer foreign Instructors of JKA Karate

JKA WF World Championships
The JKA Hq announced that the next World Championships will be held in Ireland from August 17th 2017 to August 20th 2017. The Organizing country has announced that it will be held at the University College, Limerick.

The 2016 Spring JKA Joint International Instructors Camp
Next Funakoshi Gichin World Cup announced Neeraj Dhawan passes A level Instructor grade
The 2016 Spring JKA Joint International Instructors Camp was held at the JKA Honbu from the 14th to the 17th of April 2016. The new Chairman of the JKA Mr. KATSUHIDE KUSAHARA was introduced to the participants, many of whom were foreigners. The Camp was also attended by the Chief Instructor for India Sensei Anand Ratna. Sensei Ratna was also invited by the honbu as an observer for the International Directors meeting when it was decided that the next World Cup would be held in Ireland in 2017. The exact date would be intimated to members by the honbu later. Sensei Neeraj Dhawan passed his A Level Instructors examinations held during the Camp. Many congratulations to him from all of JKA India.

The 2015 Autumn JKA Joint International Instructors Camp
Sensei Neeraj Dhawan passes 6th Dan Examination
The 2015 Autumn JKA Joint International Instructors Camp was held at the JKA Honbu from the 15th to the 18th of October 2015. Many participants mainly foreigners took part in this event.Sensei Neeraj Dhawan was conferred with the 6th Degree Black belt at the Dan examinations held during the Joint Autumn Camp at the honbu Dojo in Tokyo. 1st Asia -Oceania JKA Championship - Bangkok, Thailand
The 1st JKA Asia Oceania Championships were held in Bangkok on 22nd & 23rd August 2015. The Indian Team comprised of the following :

Sensei renews Examiner Rights for Technical Licences Sensei Anand Ratna becomes first non Japanese Asian to pass A Kyu Examiner's Licence of the JKA
The 2015 Spring JKA Joint International Instructors Camp was held at the JKA Honbu from the 9th to the 12th of April 2015. Over 350 participants mainly foreigners took part in this event. The Chief Instructor for India Sensei Anand Ratna, representated the country at the Event. He successfully renewed his Special Examiner Rights for Technical Licences. Sensei Ratna also made the country proud as he also passed the exam for the highest level "A" Class Examiner's Licence of the JKA. There are not very many non Japanese Examiners in the world having this licence and he thus becomes the first Non Japanese Asian in the World to have "A" Level Licences as Instructor, Examiner and Judge .
Sensei Ratna's visit to JKA New Zealand
Sensei Anand Ratna was invited by his student Sensei Karl Naoroji Chief Instructor of JKA New Zealand for the celebration of his 35th year. Sensei Naka conducted the training camp and conducted Dan and Technical Examinations. A detailed report on the visit is available on the JKA New Zealand website

13th Funakoshi Gichin World Cup Karate Championships

The Indian Team comprising of the JKA India Junior Champions Soham Vaidya (14 years) Bhargavi Thosar (14 years) and Nealon D'Cruz (13years) participated in The 13th Funakoshi Gichin World Karate Championship Tournament held at the Nioppon Budokan, Tokyo on 17th, 18th and 19th October 2014. It had 53 countries participating with large numbers of contestants in each category. The Indian Team performed well with D'Cruz & Vaidya reaching the last 8 in their age catagories.Thosar reached the pre-quarter finals .

The Team trained at the honbu dojo under HQ Instructors for a Week before the championships The IndianTeam at the Championships with Nealon D'Cruz holding the Indian placard.
On Day 1 of the World Cup, .N. Dhawan and A. Ratna acted as Coaches for the Team. Day 2 of the championship had N. Dhawan and Sensei Ratna as Judges. Day 3 was the Semi finals & Finals of the Senior Events. Sensei Ratna was chosen by the JKA as one of the Judges for the finals .

The 2014 Autumn JKA Joint International Instructors Camp
JKA celebrates it's 65th Anniversary Sensei Anand Ratna passes 7th Degree Black Belt of the JKA
The 2015 Autumn JKA Joint International Instructors Camp was held at the JKA Honbu from the 11th to the 14th of October 2014. Over 450 participants mainly foreigners took part in this event as the World Cup was scheduled immediately after the Camp. Both Neeraj Dhawan and Anand Ratna represented India at the Event. Sensei Anand Ratna, Chief Instructor of India successfully graded for the Nana Dan of the JKA. Sensei Ratna also successfully renewed his Special Examiner Rights for India. On the 16th of October the JKA celebrated it's 65th Anniversary. With all the Senior Instructors of the World gathered for the World Cup, it was a Who's Who of the Karate World that gathered for the glittering Ceremony. The Message of the Prime Minsiter of Japan was read out by his emmissary at the function. A commemorative book is expected to be ready by the end of the year showcasing the various milestones of the JKA.

Monsoon Camp in Surat -15th, 16th & 17th August 2014

The 4th Annual Monsoon Camp for members of JKA India will be held on 15th, 16th & 17th August 2014 at the Sree Surati Modha Vanik Vaadi, Bamanjini Sheriff, Rudhnathpura, Lal Darwaja, Surat. GUJARAT Yuko Hirayama Sensei 6th Dan JKA Hq instructor along with Anand Ratna Sensei Chief Instructor of India will be conducting the monsoon camp. Hirayama Sensei was born on June 18, 1969 in Kanagawa Prefecture and started training from the 2nd year of elementary school. She graduated from Tokyo University Physical Education College. After graduation she joined the Instructor training program of the JKA where she graduated in 1998. Hirayama Sensei's Motto is : "Seize the moment". Her major tournament wins:

5th JKA India Kyu Level National Tournament
Surat, Gujarat - 15th , 16th & 17th August 2014


The 5th edition of the Kyu Level National Championships for members of JKA India will be held on 15th, 16th & 17th August 2014 along with the Monsoon camp at the Sree Surati Modha Vanik Vaadi, Bamanjini Sheriff, Rudhnathpura, Lal Darwaja, Surat. GUJARAT . There are separate Individual events for Boys and Girls & Team Events of Kata and Kumite. This year's events have each age category divided into 2 kyu divisions thus giving the lower kyu levels a chance to compete amongst their peer groups.
The age categories are :
Below 8 years / Below 10years / Below 12years / Below 14years / Below 16years / Below 18years -
Above 18years - Men & Women. The details of the championship have been sent to the various state representatives.

31st JKA India National Program
21st to 27th January 2014 - Mumbai.
The 31st JKAI National Program comprising of the National Training Camp and the National Tournament was held in Mumbai from 21st to 27th January 2014. The Venue for both the events was the Mumbai Univerity Indoor Stadium at Marine Lines, Mumbai.
31st JKA India National Training Camp 21~24 January 2014
The Guest Instructor for the Training Camp was T.Taniyama Shihan , the General Manager of the Guidance Division of JKA assisted by Sensei Anand Ratna the Chief Instructor for India. The camp was held from 21st to 24th January. A Technical Seminar was conducted by Sensei Anand Ratna on the 24th.  
31st JKA India National Chamapionships 25~27th January 2014
The 31st National Championships consisting of the Juniors Division and the Senior Division, were held from 25th to 27th January 2014. The categories for the Juniors Division were below 8yrs, below 10yrs, below 12yrs., below 14yrs., below 16yrs., below 18yrs. The Seniors Division events were for participants of above 18yrs. Mr. Neeraj Dhawan of UP retained the Men's Kata & Kumite Titles. The Women's kata title was won by Karuna Horo of Karnataka and the Women's Kumite Title was won by Madey Purty of Jharkhand.

Monsoon Camp in Raipur -9th, 10th & 11th August 2013

NATIONAL PROGRAM OF JKA India - Goa- 2013

The 30th National Program of JKA India for the year 2013 is to be held in Goa from the 21st to the 28th of January 2013. JKA India is proud to announce a 4 day Gasshuku with the legendary Karate Master Masaahiko Tanaka Shihan 8th Dan, Vice Chief Instructor of the JKA. Details of the Event have been sent by Email to all states. the program. State representatives who have not yet received the mail may contact the JKAI office for the same. Overseas JKA members interested in joining the training camp can down load the Camp Form available on the event page.


WINTER TRAINING CAMP - MUMBAI

The Annual Winter Training Camp conducted by Sensei Anand Ratna Chief Instructor for India will be held in Mumbai. Details of the camp are given below
IDates : 10th,11th & 12th of November 2012.
Venue: Dr. S Radhakrishna Vidyalaya, Sunder Nagar, Next to Dalmiya College, Off S.V. Road Malad (West) Mumbai

Ratna Sensei awarded Special Rights as Technical Qualifications Examiner
Anand Ratna Sensei our Chief Instructor became the first Non Japanese JKA Instructor in the World to be awarded the special rights for conducting Technical Qualification Licence Examination, when he passed the requisite examinations conducted by the JKA Headquarters during the recently concluded Autumn Camp at the JKA Honbu in Japan. Along with Saeki Sensei of Canada and Nishimura Sensei of Australia, (both of whom are Japanese), he was in the first group of 3 JKA Instructors outside of the JKA Headquarters to be awarded these rights outside of Japan. The Special Rights are being awarded to Qualified Instructors by the JKA Headquarters, to enable countries to have more qualified instructors and judges. Sensei Ratna said that the Special Rights would enable him conduct the Technical Seminar and Technical examnations around the country whenever a state requested such an event to be held . Congratulations Sensei, we are proud of you.

Ratna Sensei's Special Rights as Dan Examiner upgraded

Anand Ratna Sensei our Chief Instructor passed the requisite examination for the Special Rights for conducting Dan Examinations that were conducted during the recently concluded Autumn Camp at the JKA Headquarters . His Special Rights were upgraded to enable him conduct Dan Examinations up to the level of San Dan or the 3rd Degree Black Belt.. Congratulations Sensei.

Monsoon Camp in Mumbai
Hanzaki Shihan 7th Dan JKA Headquarters instructor & General Manager of the General Affairs Department of the JKA. will replace of Izumiya Shihan who has fallen ill . Born on Dec 12, 1962 in Aomori Prefecture, he started training in Karate-do in the 1st year of high school. after which he studied at the Taisho University. He was inducted into the Instructor training program of the JKA where he graduated in 1987. Hanzaki Sensei's Motto:is "Do everything with spirit!".
The camp is open only to JKA India members.

STEPHAN LEONG PASSES AWAY
JKA India announces with great sorrow that Sensei Stephan Leong, it's head of Meghalaya state and the Vice President of the North Eastern Region has passed away. Sensei Stephan Leong was ailing for some time now and succumbed to his illness on the 23rd of October at 7PM. He was one of the most talented and respected Instructors in India who brought out the greatest number of National winners in the country. His legacy will continue with the immense pool of talent that he has nutured in his home state of Meghalaya Our thoughts are with the bereaved family and we pray that his soul Rest in Peace

The Funakoshi Gichin Cup - Pattaya Thailand-15th ~ 21st August 2011.
The Funakoshi Gichin Cup 12th World Karatedo Championship were held in Pattaya, Thailand from the 15th to 21st August, 2011.
A large Indian Contingent was represented in both the Senior and Junior Events. Members from the JKA India contingent entered the Last 8 in 4 categories with 2 finalists in the Under 10 yrs Boys kata event. It as also for the first time that we entered the final round in the senior division.
The finalists from India were:
1) Girls Under 9Years Kata : Michelle Esteberio - Goa
2) Boys under 10 Year Kata: Ayan Lall - Chattisgarh & Nealon Dcruz -Maharashtra
3)Boys under 13 years Kumite Siddhant Mundapat - Maharashtra
4) Women's Team Kata Wandashishi Warjri, Anidahun Warjri & Ester Lyngdoh
A lot of the credit for the performance must be attributed to Kobayashi Sensei from the JKA Headquarters who conducted a 2 week training camp that ended just a few days before the Championships and the results should serve as an inspiration to other members to train for the next World Championships that are scheduled to be held in Paris, France in 2014.

JKA Chief Instructor-Masaaki Ueki

The official announcement of the appointment of Ueki Masaaki Shihan as the Chief Instructor of the Japan Karate Association was formally made on the 15th of April 2010 at the Spring Camp. Master Ueki replaces Sugiura Shihan who stepped down from the post due to bad health tendering his resignation at the Shihan kai meeting in October Camp last year. He is the 3rd Chief Instructor of the JKA after Nakayama Sensei and Sugiura Sensei.
Ueki Sensei was born in Tokyo on March 24th, 1939. He attended the Asia University, the same university as former Chief Instructor Sugiura. Ueki Sensei started Karate from the 3rd year of high school. After attending University he entered the Instructor Course of the Japan Karate Association and graduated in the the year 1962. Like most of his peer group, Ueki sensei is known for his spectacular technical ability. He has won the ist place in kata in the 8th (1965) , 9th (1966), 10th (1967) , 11th(1968) 14th(1971), 17th (1974) & 18th (1975) All Japan Karate Championships. He has also won the 1st Place in Kumite in the 11th All Japan and was placed 2nd in the 8th & 14th at each of these champiosnhips he was proclaimed as the Tournament Grand Champion (viz three times in 1965, 1968 & 1971).
The JKA India humbly congratulates Ueki Shihan and looks forward to learning from him.

The official announcement of the appointment of Masahiko Tanaka Shihan as the Deputy chief Instructor of the JKA was formally made on the 15th of April 2010 at the Spring Camp. EHIDEKI OKAMOTO SENSEI PASSES AWAY
Okamoto Sensei a 1967 graduate of the JKA Instructor Course & Chief Instructor of Egypt and Director of the JKA W/F for the Middle East and Africa Region succumbed to cancer on the 30th of April 2009. The Architect of the JKA in the Middle East and Africa, he was also involved in a many humanitarian works of relief in the region. Various countries of the Region bestowed awards upon him for his work there. He was also the initial teacher of Neeraj Dhawan the current JKA India National Champion and the Chief Instructor for many of JKA India members employed in the Middle East who continue their training there. The members of the JKA India offer our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and pray that his Soul Rest in Peace

Nishiyama Sensei passes away
Hidetaka Nishiyama Sensei, the head of the International Traditional Karate Federation passed away after a prolonged illness. One of the earliest legends of JKA Karate , Nishiyama Sensei was among the pioneers to spread JKA karate in the US. The JKA India pays it's humble respects and homage to this great teacher. May his soul R.I.P.

JKA PASSPORTS
Passports issued by the Japan Karate Association have been distributed to all those members who passed their Shodan Exams in the 2007. The Passports have been given to the Instructors and may be collected by the students from them. The passports will have to be carried by the student for all Tournaments, Technical Seminars and Examinations of the JKA.

New JKA INDIA Kyu Grade Certificates
The new JKA India Certificates for kyu grades of 10kyu to 4th kyu are available with the finance director. Authorised Examiners may collect the same as and when required. Examiners may note that the earlier certificates are no longer valid. For further details please contact the finance director.

Formation of Clubs in JKA India
The JKA India in it's EGM held in Delhi upheld the decision of the General Body to form Clubs in the country. as direct members of the JKA India. The decision was upheld by a majority of the members. The application form for the formation of the clubs may be filled in and submitted to the Chairman. Applicants for Clubs must hold a JKA Dan Grade. Approval of the Clubs will be in consultation with the State Body or Branch Chief. Application form
